Hebrews 8:1-2

Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.

Questions

We can see a shadow, but there’s no substance to them – they happen as a result of something else. In the Old Testament God had given a number of things to his people – priests, the temple and sacrifices. But these things were only shadows, Jesus Christ has come into the world to give them substance.

Question 1

What is the work of a high priest according to this reading?

Question 2

In what way is Jesus Christ a better high priest than Old Testament priests?

Read the rest of the chapter to help you and look at Hebrews 4:14-16 as well.

Pray:

Thank you that Jesus completes all the shadows of the Old Testament. Thank you that the priests and the temple of the Old Testament points to Him. Thank you that Jesus is a great priest who can sympathize with us. Help us to trust Jesus this Christmas!
