1 John 2:1-2

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

Questions

Question 1

John says he wrote chapter 1 to help Christians avoid sinning – how does chapter 1 help us not to sin?

Question 2

John is real and knows that we all fall into sin. Can you see how you have fallen into sin recently?

Question 3

What has Jesus done according to these verses? How does this bring comfort to you?

Do your friend always stand up for you? Jesus is a friend to Christians and he’s forgiving – that means he stands up for us in heaven. He can do this because he paid the price we deserved for the wrong in our hearts. When you feel hopeless that you’ve fallen into sin (again!), remember to go to Jesus in prayer to receive complete forgiveness.

Pray:

Thank you that Jesus is here in this moment standing up for me, because he paid the price that I couldn’t pay. Help me to always be honest with you – even though I feel embarrassed about the things I do and think, I know you will forgive me. Help me to turn my back on the things I do.
