3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[a] is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him:6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
According to John, what should someone’s attitude be towards the Bible and God’s commandments?
Question 3
How can we demonstrate that we are seriously following God?
Becoming a Christian means that something has happened to us – and this is demonstrated in what we do and feel. In these verses, John doesn’t say that someone should be perfect to be a Christian (remember that we know that Jesus forgives us when we sin). Here, it’s talking about the attitude of our heart. It’s very easy for anyone to say they believe in Jesus but use it as a way to live their life as they want, forgetting about God. But the heart of a Christian has changed, so they should want to do what is right by following God’s way.
Pray:
Thank you, Father, that you give a new heart to every Christian. Thank you that it’s not something that we do it ourselves, rather something that your Spirit does in our heart.
